Haruhi Suzumiya Light Novel Volume 13 Release Date Announced

The Haruhi Suzumiya series is set to welcome a new addition with the upcoming volume titled Haruhi Suzumiya Gekijyo (The Theater of Haruhi Suzumiya). This exciting release is scheduled for November 29, 2024, and will be available worldwide.

Details About the New Volume

Published under Kadokawa’s Sneaker Bunko imprint, Haruhi Suzumiya Gekijyo will retail for 770 yen. In this new adventure, Haruhi finds herself in a royal palace where a king requests her help to defeat an evil demon king. However, confusion reigns as the characters struggle to understand their surroundings. Asahina’s magic unexpectedly explodes, leading them to believe their mission is complete. Yet, Nagato’s cryptic remark, “Mission not accomplished,” sends them on a whirlwind journey through outer space, a Western movie setting, and even a mythical world. The question remains: who orchestrates this chaos, and what are Haruhi’s true intentions?

Background of the Series

The Haruhi Suzumiya light novel series, penned by Nagaru Tanigawa and illustrated by Noizi Ito, began its journey in 2003. To date, there have been 12 volumes published, with the most recent one released in late 2020 after a long hiatus of twelve years.

Manga Adaptations

The series has also inspired two manga adaptations:

  • The first adaptation by Makoto Mizuno ran from May to December 2004 and was compiled into a single volume.
  • The second manga, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, illustrated by Gaku Tsugano, was serialized from 2005 to 2013 in Kadokawa’s Comic Ace magazine and concluded after 20 volumes.

Both the light novels and Tsugano’s manga have been licensed for English release by Yen Press.

Anime Adaptation Highlights

The anime adaptation of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, produced by Kyoto Animation, premiered in 2006. Notably, the episodes were aired in a non-chronological order, presenting various stories from the light novels.

  • The first season was rebroadcast in April 2009 with the episodes arranged chronologically.
  • A second season followed in 2009 after being announced in 2007.
  • The film The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, which aligns with the fourth novel, premiered in 2010.

To date, the first four novels have been fully adapted into anime, along with portions of The Rampage of Haruhi Suzumiya and The Wavering of Haruhi Suzumiya.
